Now iPhone will be manufactured in India and resultantly, Made in India iPhone is going to be made in India. This work will be completed by Tata Group, one of the largest companies in the country. The deal to acquire the factory of Apple supplier Wistron was finalized on Friday. Wistron's board of directors approved this sale on Friday. Manufacturing of iPhone will start within two and a half years. Giving this information, Electronics and Technology Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar congratulated the Tata Group. Currently, Wistron's Indian plant is manufacturing iPhones in its 8 production lines. After Tata's acquisition, Wistron will be completely out of the Indian market, as it is the only plant of the company producing Apple products in India.
Work will begin within 2.5 years
After this deal, Tata Group will manufacture the Apple iPhone in India for domestic and global markets within two and a half years. Tata has bought the factory of Apple's supplier Wistron. By purchasing this Taiwanese company, Tata will start production of iPhone in the next two and a half years. Tata Group company Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) has bought Wistron Infocom Manufacturing (India) Private Limited for $ 125 million i.e. about Rs 1000 crore. Talks were going on between the two for the last one year. After Tata's takeover, India will get its first domestic production line for Apple products.
Wistron entered the Indian market in 2008
Taiwanese company Wistron entered the Indian market in 2008, when the company used to provide repair facilities for many devices. After this, in 2017, the company expanded its business and started production of iPhone for Apple. More than 10,000 workers work in this Wistron plant.
Wistron took this decision to sell its iPhone assembly factory in India due to challenges in achieving profit under Apple's terms. The company had to struggle a lot to earn profits as the only iPhone assembly provider in India.
