Mumbai. Mumbai Police investigating the threat e-mails received by RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani wherein the senders had gradually raised the demand for money to ₹ 900 crore nabbed two youths from Telangana and Gujarat. Investigating officials said that both the accused had demanded Rs 900 crore from Ambani in six different emails sent in the last eight days. According to preliminary investigation, the accused do not know each other and they work separately. The emails were sent to the official e-mail ID of Ambani's company in the last eight days and Ambani was threatened with death if payment was not made. According to the official, one of the two accused has been identified as Ganesh Ramesh Vanarapati (19), who was caught by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch from Warangal in Telangana. Whereas, the second person was caught from Gujarat and he has been identified as Rajveer Singh Khant (20). He said that it was revealed that the accused had used different email IDs.
6 mails to extort Rs 900 Cr
The officer clarified that the accused arrested from Gujarat was identified as Rajveer Khant and not Shadab Khan, as a police officer had said earlier in the day. According to investigation, Khant had used an e-mail ID created in the name Shadab Khan. The officer said, “Khant was using an email ID created in the name Shadab Khan. “He had sent five e-mails to Ambani demanding Rs 400 crore, while Vanrapati had sent one email to Ambani demanding Rs 500 crore.” According to the police, on October 27, Ambani's office had received an email in which the sender had demanded Rs 20 crore, saying, "If you (Ambani) will not give us Rs 20 crore, we will kill you." Will kill. We have the best shooters in India.” Police said another email was received the next day demanding Rs 200 crore, with a threat that “if the demands are not met, a death warrant will be issued.”
Accused are students
An FIR was lodged at Gamdevi police station based on the complaint of the industrialist's security in-charge. On Monday, Ambani's company received another threatening email from an unknown person, in which a demand of Rs 400 crore was made. Vanrapati was produced in a court here, from where he was sent to police custody till November 8. The police officer said that another accused, Khan is a highly educated student. According to the officer, both the accused have been arrested under sections 387 (putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the case has been registered. Further investigation is underway.
