Modi has announced plans to extend the free ration scheme under the Central Government's Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana for the next five years. So now 80 crore people of the country will get free ration for the next five years. This has given relief to the poor people of the country.
Announcement made in poll campaign
The Prime Minister was addressing a public meeting at Durg in Chhattisgarh and on this occasion, he announced the extension of free ration scheme for five years. Elections will be held in Chhattisgarh this month. Polling for the 90-seat Chhattisgarh assembly will be held in two phases on November 7 and November 17. In such a situation, this announcement of PM Modi is also being linked with the election.
The scheme was launched during corona
After the covid pandemic broke out, the central government had started the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Food Yojana. Just after the pandemic, many strict restrictions including lockdown were imposed and due to this, everyone's life was disrupted, especially the poor faced food crisis. In such a situation, the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi had started a free ration scheme to help the poor people. It is said that 80 crore citizens are benefiting from this scheme.
The period of this scheme was to end in December
Under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, beneficiaries get five kg of wheat or rice free of charge. It was first started by the central government on 30 June 2020. The deadline has been extended several times since then. Currently this scheme was supposed to end in December 2023 i.e. next month. Now after an extension of 5 years, people will get the benefit of this scheme till December 2028.

Addressing a public meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said about Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana that the BJP government has now decided to extend the scheme of providing free ration to 80 crore poor people of the country for another 5 years.
