Mumbai. Many people must have had the experience of collecting ticket fees from passengers but being bombed in the name of facilities while traveling in Railways. However, a railway passenger filed a complaint against the railway in the Consumer Court after the inconvenience caused. The consumer court imposed a fine on the South Central Railway. While traveling in Garib Rath Express, AC, fans were not working. Therefore, the passenger said that he had to travel in a coach with no air circulation. The complaint was filed by KVS Appa Rao, a passenger traveling on South Central Railway. Rao said that he had complained to the railway authorities about AC, fans not working in Garib Rath Express. Besides, a letter was given to the authorities demanding compensation for the mental anguish caused. However, no action was taken. On this, the District Consumer Court termed the case as irresponsibility and complete non-delivery of services. South Central Railway did not take any action on the failure. So the customer had to travel with mental agony. Therefore, the consumer court imposed a penalty of Rs 15,000 on the railways.
Rao was traveling with his daughter
Appa Rao was traveling from Visakhapatnam to Secunderabad with his daughter on April 5, 2023. He had reserved two tickets in the Garib Rath train. According to Rao, the train left at 8.40 pm and after dinner he went to bed at 10 pm. However, the AC and fans are switched off at night. When he informed TTE about this, he promised to solve the problem at Eluru station. But even though the train left there, the problem was not resolved. Then in the morning at Vijayawada station the fault was rectified. Till then all the passengers in that coach had to bear mental agony. Rao had also filed an RTI. From this they found that the train's diesel generator was not working. Due to this, the power supply of the AC plant was stopped. After this, he filed a case in the District Consumer Court of Hyderabad and demanded a penalty.
