Mumbai. Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani has said that his company will invest an additional Rs 20,000 crore in West Bengal in the next three years. This investment will be made in retail, telecommunication and bio-energy sectors. Ambani said at the ongoing seventh Bengal Global Business Summit in Kolkata. This investment will be made in telecommunication, retail and bio-energy sectors. He said that Reliance will leave no stone unturned in the development of Bengal, adding that Reliance has so far invested about Rs 45,000 crore in Bengal and Reliance's telecom arm Jio is taking 5G to every corner of the state, especially connecting rural areas. Most parts of Bengal have been included in its scope.Reliance Foundation will create training institutes for the young generation of craftsmen in Bengal in collaboration with the state government. Also, products of weavers, artisans and handicrafts men will be sold through Reliance Retail shops.
Jio have strong presence in WB
Notably, Jio's network covers 98.8 per cent of the population in the state and 100 per cent in the Kolkata telecom circle. Ambani said, "Jio's strong network will promote education, healthcare and agriculture on a large scale along with employment in West Bengal." Along with this, he said that Reliance's retail unit Reliance Retail will be launched in West Bengal in the next two years. It is planning to open about 200 new stores. Currently, around 1,000 Reliance stores are active in Bengal, which will increase to 1,200 after expansion.
To set up 100 compressed biogas plants
64-year old business tycoon Ambani further said, “Hundreds of small and medium enterprises and about 5.5 lakh grocery shopkeepers of Bengal are associated with our retail business. They will benefit from the opening of new shops. Referring to bio-energy, he said that Reliance will set up 100 compressed biogas plants (CBG) in the next three years where 55 lakh tonnes of agricultural residue and organic waste will be consumed. This will help in reducing about 20 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions and will produce 25 lakh tonnes of organic fertilizer annually. In his address, he also mentioned the work being done in the state by Reliance Foundation. These also include the renovation and restoration of the famous Kalighat temple of Kolkata. Reliance Foundation is doing the repair and beautification work of this centuries old temple.
