Mumbai. Elon Musk, one of the richest people in the world, has made a roadmap to launch his company Tesla in India. This car making company has started finalizing preparations ahead of Musk's possible visit to India next year. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal had recently visited Tesla's manufacturing plant in California. According to sources, Tesla India's factory is likely to be set up in Gujarat or Maharashtra, where it plans to procure 5 lakh EV cars every year. The price of entry level cars of Tesla India can be around Rs 20 lakh. The central government has agreed with Tesla on a reduction in import duty, which has not been revealed yet. An official announcement about Tesla India may be made during Musk's possible visit to India in January next year. Musk's company Tesla has also planned to manufacture and sell 'Powerwall' in India.
Musk wants to make India an export base
Musk aims to sell 2 crore EVs globally by 2030. For this, Musk wants to make India an export base for Asia and the Pacific Ocean region. He wants to set up an EV factory in India to compete with China-made EVs in countries in South East Asia including Australia and New Zealand. Musk also has an eye on India's domestic EV market. Tesla will double the import of components manufactured in India this year. During a visit to Tesla's manufacturing plant in California, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said that the Tesla company has also included India in its supply chain. This is a positive step. Till last year, Tesla had ordered parts worth about Rs 8,300 crore from India.
Tesla like the quality of Indian components
By the end of this year, Tesla will order parts worth Rs 16.6 thousand crore for its EV cars. Indian vendors have been sending spare parts since 2021. Tesla likes the quality of Indian components. Currently four electric cars of Tesla are being sold in the American market. These include Model S, Model 3, Model X and Model Y. The Model 3 is the cheapest car among these. Its price in America is $32,740 (about Rs 26.87 lakh). This car runs 535 kilometers once fully charged.
