Mumbai. OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT, has fired co-founder and CEO Sam Altman citing Altman does not have confidence in Altman's ability to take it forward. Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Meera Murati has been made the interim CEO. Company President Greg Brockman will also resign. Sam was asked to step down in a Google Meet that sent shockwaves in the circles. Notably, OpenAI is a private research lab which develops artificial intelligence. It was founded as a non-profit organization in 2015 by Altman, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and five others. Musk is no longer on the board of OpenAI. Microsoft has also invested in the company. Sam Altman tweeted, “I loved my time at openai. It was transformative for me personally, and hopefully the world a little bit. Most of all I loved working with such talented people."
Greg Brockman expressed surprise
OpenAI President and co-founder Greg Brockman expressed surprise at Sam Altman's removal from the company. He wrote on X, “Sam and I are shocked and saddened by what the board did today. First of all, thanks to all the people with whom we have worked at OpenAI. “We are still trying to find out what exactly happened.” Greg Bockman told in his expose post that Sam received a text from Ilya asking to talk on Friday afternoon. Sam Altman joins Google Meet. Meanwhile, Ilya told Sam that he was being fired from his job. The entire board except Greg Brockman attended the Google Meet.
Who is Meera Murati?
34 year old Meera Murati has now been made the interim CEO. Mira was born in Albania and grew up in Canada. She is a mechanical engineer and has also worked in Tesla. She came to OpenAI from Tesla. In Tesla, she played an important role in making the Model X car. Meera joined OpenAI in 2018. Mira has worked behind the scenes in the development of revolutionary products like ChatGPT and DALL-E.
