Mumbai. As expected, the implementation of new emission norms BS-VI Phase-II in the country from April 1 has started showing its impact on car sales. Due to the increase in cost, companies are increasing the prices of cars. So far this year, almost all companies have made cars costlier by up to 5%. If market experts are to be believed, this trend may continue till the end of the year, which means that in the coming days, the power of cars may increase like this. Car companies, which had increased prices of several models in January, again increased prices in March-April and May. Kia India and MG Motor India increased prices in March and Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra in April for the second time this year.
Honda- the trend setter
Honda increased the prices of some models in April and is set to increase some in June. At the same time, Tata Motors has increased the prices of cars and commercial vehicles by 0.6 percent to 5 percent in May. Officials of the companies say that after the implementation of the new standard, they have to install additional equipment in the cars. Some of the burden of their cost is gradually being passed on to the customers.
New emission norms to blame
According to Vishal Damle, associated with the automobile industry, the new emission norms have increased the cost of cars. Due to this, companies are gradually increasing the prices from the beginning of this year. By June, there will be an increase of 3 to 20 thousand rupees according to different models. After September, the prices can be increased further by 0.5% to 2%.
