Mumbai. In a country like India and the society representing this country, people belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community are still looked down upon and a lot of reluctance is seen to adopt them socially. Although there is talk in society about the rights of this community on different fronts, the corporate world is working beyond all these social restrictions. Corporate world is not only making the people of the LGBTQIA+ community a part of his work space, but is also offering a lot of jobs to the people of this community. A recent report has revealed that companies operating in India such as Capemini, Axis Bank, NatWest Group, Flipkart, Schneider Electric and Tata Steel have not only made policies to employ people from the LGBTQIA+ community, but are now also a part of their workforce, which is being discussed everywhere. Apart from this, attention is being paid to make office employees gender sensitive. At the same time, gender neutral washrooms and changing rooms are being made at the workplace.
June celebrated as 'Pride Month'
The LGBTQIA+ community around the world celebrates June as 'Pride Month'. In such a situation, it is imperative to mention that the corporate world of India is not only giving jobs to the people of LGBTQIA+ community, rather, it is also creating a talent pool of LGBTQIA+ by retaining and training lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders, queers, intersex and asexuals. Shreya Ghosh Oberoi, Senior Director (Diversity & Inclusion), Capemini, says that in order to hire, retain and grow the best talent in the company, it is important to create a good culture, where people of all kinds are included. Few companies have taken several steps to include the LGBTQIA+ community, for example, the company gives 30 days leave for gender change surgery.
Outfront committee to interact with
Some companies have also formed an outfront committee which conducts various events from time to time to interact with the people of the community. Not only this, the company is also going to issue a Gender Transition Guidelines this year, which will be useful for the HR department, managers and employees to help LGBTQIA+ employees in their team. The corporate world is not the only one offering jobs to the LGBTQIA+ community. Rather, the office policy and workplace are also being changed in such a way that the people of the community can be included there.
