Mumbai. One of the largest private sector airlines, Indigo Airlines has made a big announcement of buying 500 new Airbus A320s. This is the largest single order by any Indian airline. These aircraft are likely to enter IndiGo's fleet in a phased manner by 2035. Speaking about this, Indigo Airlines said that the delivery of the aircraft is expected between 2030 and 2035. "This order of 500 aircraft is not only IndiGo's largest ever, but also the largest one-time purchase by any airline, including Airbus," IndiGo said. Engines for these 500 aircraft will be selected over time; this will include the A320 and A321 aircraft, the company said. Airbus said it was the largest purchase in the history of a commercial airline.
Air India has already ordered for 470 aircrafts
Earlier, Air India had made a historic announcement to purchase 470 aircraft in the month of February. Of these, 250 aircraft will be purchased from Airbus and 220 aircraft from Boeing. There is also an option to purchase an additional 370 aircraft from the two aircraft manufacturers. Air India has ordered new aircraft for the first time in over 17 years. Air India was taken over by the Tata Group from the government in January last year.
Share price of Indigo goes up
On Monday, the share price of IndiGo closed at Rs 2440 with a gain of 0.41 percent. The company's share price has gained 19.41 percent YTD. The stock has returned 57.48 percent in the last one year and 105.96 percent in the last five years. IndiGo has a 52-week low of Rs.1,513.30 and a 52-week high of Rs.2488. The market capitalization of the company is Rs 94,073.49 crore.
