Mumbai. Education-technology company Byju has laid off around 1,000 employees as part of its restructuring process. Sources have said that the retrenched employees belong to different departments. However, the company's total workforce has remained around 50,000 due to the addition of new employees. According to the report, the latest layoffs are about two percent of the company's total workforce. A new round of layoffs at the company has begun amid a legal dispute in a US court over a billion-dollar debt settlement. Byju had earlier said it would lay off around 2,500 employees in the next six months from October 2022.

In February this year, Byju had laid off around 1,500 employees. It mainly consisted of design, engineering and production staff. While in October last year, Byju had laid off around 2,500 employees, which was five per cent of the company's workforce. Byju Ravindran, founder and CEO of Byju, had assured employees in October last year that there would be no layoffs beyond the planned 2,500 employees. Sources then said that the company is planning to outsource some functions in operations, logistics, customer care, engineering, sales, marketing and communications and other areas.
