Mumbai. Entire country is reeling under the high prices of tomatoes since last one month and even more worrying news for crores of people, who are waiting for the price of tomatoes to come down, is that they will have to spend a lot of money for a long time. Tomato traders have clarified that at present there is no hope of a fall in the prices of tomatoes in the country. If traders are to be believed, tomatoes will remain expensive for the next two months and it's prices will remain above Rs 100 per kg. Nagpur Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee traders Chandramani Borkar said that there is no hope of a fall in tomato prices. In such a situation, people will have to lose their pockets to buy tomatoes now. Addressing the media, he said that tomatoes have become so expensive in just a few days. The special thing is that there has been a jump in the prices of tomatoes all over the country. Borkar said that tomatoes were very cheap in the month of June. Then its price was Rs 40 per kg. But in the first week of July itself, it reached Rs 100 per kg and now the rate of one kg tomato is Rs 200.
Price can reach up to Rs 300 a kg
On the other hand, experts say that with the onset of monsoon in many states, it is raining heavily intermittently and this has caused a lot of damage to the tomato crop. In such a situation, due to the production of tomatoes being affected, the prices may increase further. In the coming few weeks, the price of tomato can reach up to Rs 300 per kg. Due to this, inflation will reach the peak and the burden on the budget of the common people may increase further. In this way, tomatoes are cultivated throughout the year, but its production cycle is only 60 to 90 days. Also, its production starts in two to three months after planting tomato plants. If it continues to rain like this, farmers will not be able to sow tomatoes in the Kharif season. In such a situation, it may take a long time for the prices to come down.
Tomato is sown in July-August
Most of the farmers plant tomatoes during the Kharif season only in the months of July and August. At the same time, the production of tomato crop starts from October, which continues till the month of January. If farmer brothers are not able to plant tomatoes on time in the months of July and August due to rain this time, then it will take time for the prices to come down.
