Mumbai. The meeting of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the world's richest industrialist Elon Musk is going to show the result as Tesla is discussing with the Indian government to set up a manufacturing plant in India. According to a report, the company has discussed with the Government of India about setting up its own supply chain in the country and tax exemption. However, the government has suggested the company to use the country's existing auto component supply chain. According to the report, the Government of India has asked Tesla about their requirements and appealed to them to meet their requirements from the Indian ecosystem. However, the company has its own suppliers. Notably, currently four Tesla electric cars are being sold in the American market. These include the Model S, Model 3, Model X and Model Y. Among them, Model 3 is the cheapest car. Its price in America is $ 32,740 (about Rs 26.87 lakh). This car runs for 535 kilometers on a single full charge.
Musk met Modi last month
Last month, Elon Musk met Prime Minister Modi in New York. When asked about the timeline of Tesla coming to India after meeting PM Modi, Musk said, "I am sure Tesla will be in India soon." Last year, Tesla had expressed its desire to come to India, but then talks could not be made between the company and the government. Tesla had demanded the government to reduce the import duty on fully assembled vehicles from 100% to 40%. The company wanted its vehicles to be considered electric vehicles and not luxury, but the government had said that there was no intention to waive or reduce import duty on any electric vehicles imported from other countries. The government had said that if Tesla makes a commitment to set up a manufacturing plant in India, then it will consider giving a rebate on imports. However, Musk wanted the cars to be sold in India first, after which the plant would be considered. Responding in a tweet on May 27, 2022, Elon Musk had said, 'Tesla will not set up a manufacturing plant at a location where it does not already have permission to sell and service cars.
