Mumbai. The Pali Hill bungalow of Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar, popularly known as Tragedy King, will soon be converted into an 11-storey luxurious residential project. The bungalow, which was close to Dilip Kumar's heart and where he lived till he breathed last, will be demolished and will be erected into a museum in the actor's memory. Spreading over half an acre, it has a construction area of over 1.75 sq ft, on which 11 floors will be built. Dilip Kumar died on 7 July 2021 at Hinduja Hospital. He was then 98 years old.
Was stuck in legal battle
The bunglow was stuck in a legal tussle for many years and the late actor's family had accused a builder of forging documents with the intention of taking possession of their property. Dilip Kumar's wife Saira Banu got the plot in 2017 after a long legal battle.
However, Dilip Kumar's family has now given permission to develop this bungalow and plot into an 11-storey luxury residential project and a museum. The entrance will be different for both of them. According to the real estate experts, revenue of more than Rs 900 crore will come from this residential project. Notably, the cost of this bungalow in 2021 was Rs 350 crore.
Kumar bought in 1953
Dilip Kumar bought this bungalow in 1953 from a person named Kamruddin Latif for about Rs 1.4 lakh. The plot on which this bungalow is built was taken by Kamruddin Latif on a lease of 999 years in 1923 from the family of a person named Mulraj Khatayu. The controversy arose when a local builder claimed that the bungalow was owned by him and not by Dilip Kumar. This dispute continued till 2017 and then Saira Banu and the actor got the ownership rights.
