Mumbai. Aadhaar card is an important document that stores your name, address, gender, mobile number and date of birth. If there is any change in these details, it becomes important to update them. However, there are fixed rules on how many times each detail can be updated. For example, your name can be changed only two times in Aadhaar.
Name only twice, date of birth just once
You can update your name in Aadhaar only two times. For this, you need to show valid documents like marriage certificate, passport, PAN card, voter ID or any other government-issued ID. As for your date of birth, it can be updated only once. There is no such limit for updating address. You can change your address any number of times using the UIDAI official website.
No restriction on mobile number and email updates
You can update your mobile number and email ID linked to Aadhaar as many times as you need. You just have to visit any Aadhaar service center. No document is needed for this. But remember, your registered mobile number is very important because you receive OTPs on it for online updates.
Photo can be updated anytime, but only offline
There is no limit on changing your photo in Aadhaar. But it cannot be done online. For this, you must visit an Aadhaar service center. You will need to pay a fee of 50 rupees. Online photo update is not available at the moment.
Gender update allowed only once
You can update your gender details only one time. If you want to make more changes to your name, date of birth or gender beyond the allowed limit, it is possible but only in special cases. For that, you must contact the regional Aadhaar office with a valid reason and proof.
Special cases need regional office approval
In special situations, you need to write to the regional Aadhaar office or email at [help@uidai.gov.in] (mailto:help@uidai.gov.in). You must explain why you want to make additional changes and attach valid proof. The regional office will verify your request. If they find your reason valid, they will approve it. Otherwise, they will reject the request.
