Mumbai - As ticket prices for British rock band Coldplay’s concert skyrocket to Rs 10 lakh, hotel rates in Navi Mumbai have also seen a massive surge. The rent for hotels near DY Patil Stadium, where the band is scheduled to perform in January, has reached up to Rs 1.60 lakh per night, a stark contrast to the usual rates ranging between Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000 on regular days. Hotels in Navi Mumbai and those close to DY Patil Stadium are already fully booked for the concert dates. Some properties have increased their per-night rent to Rs 1.60 lakh. Popular travel platform MakeMyTrip shows inflated rates for the weekend of January 18-19, significantly higher than usual. For instance, all rooms at Courtyard by Marriott near DY Patil Stadium are booked, with its executive apartment priced at Rs 1.60 lakh per night.

Even budget hotels like Ibis are fully booked for the concert period. The surge in demand has also affected hotel rates in Mumbai city. JW Marriott in Juhu is charging Rs 1.04 lakh per night, while St Regis in Lower Parel is priced at Rs 74,970 per night. The Westin in Powai has rooms for over Rs 50,000 per night.
Coldplay is set to perform at DY Patil Stadium on January 18, 19, and 21. Ticket sales for the concerts, which began on September 22, were sold out within minutes, with the Book My Show app recording a traffic of 24 lakh users during the process. Even filmmaker Karan Johar shared via social media that, despite his privileges, he couldn't secure tickets.
EOW Summons BookMyShow CEO in Ticket Black Marketing Probe
Meanwhile, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police has summoned Ashish Hemrajani, CEO of Big Tree Entertainment Private Limited, the parent company of BookMyShow, along with the company’s technical head, in connection with allegations of black marketing of Coldplay concert tickets. The popular British rock band is set to perform at DY Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai in January 2025. The summons were issued following a complaint filed by advocate Vyas, accusing the company of conspiring to black market tickets for the much-anticipated concert. The complaint alleges that the fraudulent activity deprived genuine fans of tickets, as many struggled to secure them despite waiting in long virtual queues on BookMyShow.
