Mumbai. IndiGo Airlines, India’s largest airline, experienced a major system crash on Saturday, leaving passengers stranded at airports across the country. The technical issue, which began around 12:30 AM, has disrupted not only flight operations but also ground services, causing widespread frustration and delays for travelers. As a result, many passengers have turned to social media to voice their concerns and have requested assistance from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). In response, IndiGo has issued an apology to affected customers. As passengers await further updates, many hope that IndiGo will swiftly resolve the issue and prevent similar disruptions in the future.
Website and Booking Systems Down
The system failure has rendered IndiGo’s website and booking platform non-functional, further compounding the problem. Passengers have been unable to check in or book new tickets, leading to significant delays at airports. Many travelers took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to share their experiences, with some expressing disappointment over being stuck at the airport for hours. IndiGo addressed the issue publicly, stating, "There is a minor problem with our network. Due to this, both our website and booking system are currently down. As a result, customers may experience longer wait times for check-ins. Our team is working diligently to resolve the issue, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. We hope to restore normal operations as soon as possible."
Chaos at Airports Nationwide
As IndiGo operates around 2,000 flights daily, both domestic and international, the system outage has had a far-reaching impact, leaving thousands of passengers stranded. At several airports, the scenes resembled the chaos of overcrowded railway stations, with long lines of frustrated travelers waiting for updates. Some passengers reported that elderly individuals were struggling due to the extended delays, and many expressed concerns about the lack of communication and support from the airline. Social media users voiced their frustration, with one stating, "IndiGo is expanding its fleet with new planes, but it seems they aren't investing in their ground services. We’ve been waiting for hours, and the situation is dire, especially for older travelers." Another user likened the airport to a crowded railway station, calling on the DGCA to take immediate action.
IndiGo’s Apology and Efforts to Resolve the Issue
IndiGo has assured passengers that their technical team is working to fix the problem and restore normal services as quickly as possible. While no timeline has been provided for when the system will be fully operational again, the airline continues to update passengers and has apologized for the disruption. The situation has underscored the airline’s need to strengthen its infrastructure, particularly as it continues to grow its fleet and expand its operations.
