Mumbai. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India's largest IT services company, has ramped up hiring efforts for fiscal year 2025 and beyond, adding 11,000 new employees in the first half of the current financial year. This move marks a reversal from the company's downsizing phase in FY24, where the workforce was reduced by 13,249 employees—the first time in nearly two decades. By the end of the first half of FY25, TCS's total employee count reached 6,12,724. In the second quarter of FY25, which ended on September 30, the company recruited 5,726 employees, following a similar trend in the first quarter, where 5,452 new hires were made. This consistent growth in workforce across two consecutive quarters highlights the company's strong hiring momentum.
Begins campus hiring for FY26
Milind Lakkad, the Chief Human Resources Officer at TCS, emphasized the company’s strategic focus on recruitment and its commitment to nurturing talent. “We have welcomed 11,000 new associates in the first half, and our trainee recruitment is on track as planned. Additionally, we have begun campus hiring for FY26,” Lakkad said. He also highlighted the importance of the company's workforce, noting how it plays a vital role in addressing the technological challenges presented by TCS's clients. The revival in recruitment comes amid signs of growth in India's IT sector, as reflected in the Naukri Jobspeak Index, a metric that tracks white-collar job recruitment trends. The index reached 2,727 points in September 2024, marking a 6% increase compared to the previous year. The IT sector, in particular, saw an 18% year-on-year rise in job recruitment, signaling renewed demand for talent in the industry. Additionally, emerging IT hubs across India have shown significant growth, further indicating the sector's expansion into new regions.
Trend of recovery in India's IT industry
TCS's hiring efforts align with the broader trend of recovery in India's IT industry, which experienced a slowdown in the previous year due to global economic uncertainty and pandemic-related disruptions. The company’s large-scale hiring efforts underscore its optimism for future growth, driven by increased digital transformation projects, AI, cloud computing, and other technological services. The company’s renewed hiring push signals its intent to remain competitive in the evolving IT landscape, preparing its workforce for the increasing technological challenges demanded by its global clients. With a strong emphasis on recruitment, TCS is well-positioned to capitalize on the expanding opportunities in the technology sector while enhancing its talent pool for future success.
