After 2011, eyes were yearning for Kohli or Rohit to lift the World Cup trophy and this long wait of 13 years was over on Saturday when Rohit's team snatched the T20 World Cup from South Africa in a thrilling final. Team India won such a final, which everyone had considered a gone-match. After 17 years, the Indian team, which won the T20 World Cup again, is now going to be showered with money and it is going to be started by none other than the BCCI. The BCCI has said that it will give a cash prize of Rs 125 crore to Team India. Board secretary Jay Shah himself announced this on Sunday. Shah wrote on X- 'I am very happy to announce that Team India, which won the T20 World Cup, will be given a prize money of Rs 125 crore. The team displayed tremendous talent, dedication and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.' Notably, the Indian team has received a prize money of Rs 20.36 crore for becoming the world champion a day earlier. The ICC had announced an increase in the prize money before this tournament. The Indian team has become the champion after 17 years in this tournament. Not only this, India has ended the 11-year ICC trophy drought. India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final match at the Barbados ground.
Kohli-Rohit-Jadeja retire from T20
After the T20 World Cup final, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ajay Jadeja retired from T20 International. Rohit said in the press conference after the match, 'This was also my last game. There could not be a better time to say goodbye. I wanted this (trophy) very much. It is very difficult to put it into words.' At the same time, after the victory in the final, Virat said, 'This was my last T20 match, so I played the same way. Now the new generation should take over the reins.'
