Mumbai. The fear of losing luggage will no longer haunt passengers now. Air India has started real time baggage tracking service from July 11 through a newly launched app. Through this, passengers will be able to track their baggage live. The company has started this service with the aim of removing the complaint of lost or delayed baggage. With this, Air India has joined the few companies that provide the facility to track baggage without contacting the airline staff. For this, the Tata Group airline company has added baggage tracking features on its official website and app. Under real time updates for baggage tracking, important information about the check-in bag such as current location, transit status and baggage arrival details will be available. In this, information about all important baggage touch points such as check-in, security clearance, aircraft loading, loading transfer and arrival of luggage in the baggage claim area will be available. Apart from this, end-to-end baggage tracking will also be available between several flight segments on Air India. According to Air India, this baggage tracking feature has been developed by Air India's digital technology and design teams in collaboration with the airline's airport operations.
Baggage can be tracked by scanning barcodes
Passengers will be able to track their luggage by scanning the barcodes on the receipts received at the time of check-in. Apart from this, if the passenger has added his trip to the 'My Trips' section, then as soon as the baggage is checked in, its information will be automatically recorded in the mobile app. This facility is also available in the Book and Manage section under the 'Track Your Bags' tab on the Air India website. According to Air India, under the interline or code-share connection feature, if your flight ticket includes sections of other airlines, then those sections can also be tracked. Apart from this, passengers with multiple check-in bags will get a user-friendly interface for tracking each bag. Whenever your bag is checked in, then only information will be received through notification on the mobile app.
You can carry up to 15KG luggage for free
Now you can carry only up to 15KG luggage for free in Air India flights. Air India has recently changed its baggage policy for domestic flights. According to the new policy of the Indian airline, a passenger can now carry only up to 15KG luggage for free in the lowest fare category in the company's domestic flights. Earlier, the limit of carrying luggage in the cabin was up to 20KG. Apart from this, the Indian airline has also made changes in other categories. The new policy is effective from May 2. The company had created a menu-based price model in August last year. It has created three categories, which include Comfort, Comfort Plus and Flex 'Fair Family'. The bags checked at the airline counter or at the self-service kiosk are called check-in baggage. Such bags are kept in the cargo hold of the aircraft. At the same time, the bag that can be carried in the cabin of the flight is called 'cabin bag' or carry-on-bag. Cabin bags can be stored in the overhead compartment above the passenger seat.
