Agreement signed in February 2016
The Jharkhand government and Adani Power had signed an agreement in February 2016 for the construction of two plants of 800 MW each. Under this, 1600 MW of electricity produced here is to be sent directly to Bangladesh through a special transmission line. It was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Bangladesh visit in 2015. This was later agreed upon during the visit of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Delhi. At one time land acquisition was also a big challenge for Adani's power plant which was almost ready. It was not easy to get land in the district due to the SPT Act and Podaihat MLA Pradeep Yadav was openly opposing it with his supporters regarding many other issues including compensation amount. Later the local people gave their lands for the development of the area and today the company is almost ready.
