Mumbai. Process of filing income tax keeps changing from time to time. Now most people pay income tax through online banking only. There are some banks in which if you have an account, still you will not be able to pay your income tax through them and this is why it is important to know about this before filing income tax online. Check whether you will be able to pay income tax online through the bank where you have your account. Here we give you a complete list of such banks in which if you have an account then you will not be able to pay income tax online. In fact the new Income Tax e-filing portal has started allowing payment of taxes through the service of e-pay tax window on the portal itself. So customers of specified banks who have migrated from TIN NSDL website to this system will now have to visit the e-filing income tax portal to pay their income tax. In such a situation, it is necessary that if you pay income tax online, then see whether the bank in which you have an account has changed or transferred its tax payment facility.
A good move by the authorities
As per the instructions of the Central Board of Direct Taxes, many banks have to switch to OLTAS e-payment of tax facility on TIN NSDL website. This is a good move by the authorities. With this, people will be able to avail the facilities on one portal instead of going to different platforms for paying taxes.
What are those banks
Now those banks which are not available for filing income tax on NSDL portal are Axis Bank, Central Bank of India, ICICI Bank Indian Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Bank of India, Federal Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank. Banks may have informed their customers about this change. ICICI Bank did this by sending an SMS to its customers stating that the Income Tax Department has migrated ICICI Bank to the new Tax Information Network version 2.0 for payment of direct taxes.
