Mumbai. Online food delivery company Swiggy has announced the closure of its 'Super Daily' services in 5 major cities of the country. Under the Super Daily Service, the company delivers milk, daily essentials and groceries. This service is based on subscription i.e. customers have to take a subscription for this service.
Swiggy suffering losses
The reason behind discontinuing this service is being told that Swiggy is suffering losses. The company says that the company is focusing on keeping costs and losses low during this challenging time. The company is yet to turn profitable.
Service stopped in these cities
The cities where Swiggy's Super Daily service has stopped include big cities like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune and Hyderabad. This service will not be available in these cities from May 12, 2022. Taking new orders has been stopped from 10th May. The company has said that the customers whose money is left in the wallet will be returned. Refunds will come in their account in 5-7 business days.
Bengaluru not affected
However, this subscription based service of the company in Bangalore will continue as before. Swiggy co-founder and Super Daily CEO Fani Kishan Edepally has said that a detailed plan has been drawn up to discontinue the service as part of an effort to restructure the business. Whereas in Bangalore, double efforts will be made to increase this service.
The focus will be on achieving the goal
Fani Kishan has sent a mail to his employees in this regard. In the mail, he has said that we have now become an essential part of customers' lives. But it is unfortunate that we are not yet on the path of profit. We are now stopping spending money and time on businesses that are taking us away from the primary goal of setting up our business. Super Daily was started in 2015 by IIT Bombay graduates Shreyas Nagdawane and Puneet Kumar. It was acquired by Swiggy in September 2018.
