Mumbai. The commerce ministry has made obtaining registration certificates for wheat exports more stringent with those sending wheat outside the country will also have to mention the date of exchange of the message with the foreign bank along with the letter of credit. If there is any discrepancy in the document of the exporter, then it will be investigated by the CBI. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), which comes under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has issued a notice in this regard on Monday. On May 13, the government had banned wheat exports. But exporters who had obtained an irrevocable letter of credit before May 13 will be able to export wheat.
Few exporters submitted fake documents
The notice states that the DGFT had issued guidelines to all its regional authorities on May 19. In this, the eligible exporters were instructed to follow strict compliance before issuing the registration certificate, but some exporters have been reported to submit fake documents to get the registration certificate. In view of this, the compliance has been made more strict.
EOW & CBI to investigate
If the date of LC is before May 13 but the exchange of SWIFT messages between Indian and foreign banks took place after May 13, then in such cases the Regional Authority will conduct a thorough investigation. If necessary, the help of an external analyst can also be taken for this. Action will also be taken against the exporters if the information is found to be incorrect. The Economic Offenses Wing and CBI have also been asked to investigate the matter. If any banker is found indulging in wrongdoing then action will be taken against him also.
