Mumbai. In a surprise move, Ambassador car maker Hindustan Motors Company has decided to return to the market again and it is going to bring Ambassador electric car along with electric scooter. Ambassador will launch an electric car in India in a joint venture with the French company. Recently, The Hind Financial Corporation of India has been seen working in collaboration with French auto manufacturer Peugeot.
Old Champion
The Ambassador cars, that ruled the Indian market in the 70s had occupied more than 70% of the Indian auto market. The popularity and durability of the Ambassador car can be gauged from the fact that at that time, from the Prime Minister to the big politicians and industrialists, this car was the first choice. However, despite ruling the market for so many years, this car was discontinued in 2014. The reason behind this was the continuous loss of Hindustan Motors. Therefore, the company sold the Ambassador's name and its rights (Ambassador Name and Rights) to a company named Peugeot for Rs 80 crore.
When and where ?
It is now partnering with Hindustan Motors and French auto manufacturer Peugeot. Its process will be done in about 3 months. The company will first work on electric two-wheelers and then launch the Legendary Car Ambassador in the Indian market in two years. This car will be made only at the Chennai Manufacturing Plant of Hindustan Motors. According to reports, this will be an electric sedan car, whose interior and exterior will be completely different. Although the company can make its design quite futuristic by learning from its past mistakes.
Ambassador last manufactured in 2014
Mitsubishi Cars were manufactured at Hindustan Motors' Chennai plant. At the same time, the company used to manufacture Ambassador cars in Uttarpara of West Bengal. The Ambassador car was last manufactured in Uttarpara in 2014, after which the company was continuously going into loss due to declining sales. The company had to stop production of these cars after getting into debt.
