Mumbai. The journey of the country's private airline Akasa Air started from Sunday. Aakasa's first commercial flight started from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. It is owned by veteran investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, who also traveled on the first flight. Akasa Air got the Air Operator Certificate from aviation regulator DGCA on 7 July. The first flight of the airline company left for Ahmedabad from Mumbai at 10.05 am. After this, Akasa Air will start services for Bengaluru-Kochi from August 13, Bengaluru-Mumbai from August 19 and Chennai-Mumbai from September 15.

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala and his wife Rekha have the biggest stake in Aakasa. The combined share of both is 45.97 percent. Vinay Dubey, Sanjay Dubey, Neeraj Dubey, Madhav Bhatkuli, PAR Capital Ventures, Karthik Verma are also promoters in it. After Jhunjhunwala, Vinay Dubey has the highest share of 16.13 percent in it. The responsibility of running the company is in the hands of Vinay Dubey. He is its CEO.

Commercial flights of Akasa Air will start through Boeing 737 MAX plane on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route. The airline has kept the minimum one-way fare on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route at Rs 3,948. The fare for other airlines on this route is Rs 4,262. On July 22, the company started booking tickets and within a few hours all the tickets were booked.
